Another weekend and another security breach…

In today’s world, businesses have security breaches almost daily.  I ran across some interesting data recently regarding cyber-attacks.  It said that 40% of all cyber-attacks are committed on employers with less than 1000 employees, and 31% of all cyber-attacks are committed on employers with less than 100 employees.  This should be alarming to small and medium businesses.  Not many business can internally handle the expense of a cyber-attack.  If your business does not have Cyber Liability, please contact your insurance agent and have them find you coverage.  The article below came out today from the Houston Chronicle regarding an upscale hotel.

Cyber-attack hits guests at Houstonian Hotel

By Cindy George | July 8, 2014

At least 10,000 customers of the Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa have been notified that the hotel’s credit card processing system was breached for six months between last December and June 20.

The hotel has emailed 10,000 guests about the security hack. “We have collected all the relevant data and are working closely with the Secret Service and the Houston Police Department to assist in their investigations,” according to the email from hotel management.

The email continues: “On Dec. 28, 2013, our payment systems for credit card processing experienced a malicious software attack and security breach.”

It is unclear how many transactions were impacted by the cyber-attack.
